Young Club Grows with Our Communities

The Coronado Optimist Club offers programs that Optimist International provides--primarily scholarship competitions for middle and high school students and some new ideas to help where we can.

This Year's Plans Roll Out Smoothly

Several new programs are continuing this year.  In the Izzy Juarez Keep Up the Good Work Award.  We hope to continue partnering with Bernalillo Elementary School, Carroll Elementary School, and Placitas Elementary School.  As our club grows so will our abiliity to invite more schools to participate.

From Placitas we have brought our Bike Safety Rodeo, a valued Optimist International Program that the Optimist Club de Sandoval and many other local clubs annually conduct.  This year, our Bike Safety Rodeo will be April 1.

Our fourth new-to-the-Coronado Optimist Club is our Friend of Youth Awards to Outstanding First Responders and Educators.  We hold this great celebration at the end of the school year.

We've launched this year for the third time with our Thanksgiving Sharing Project and look forward to continually adding to the services we provide the community.

Additionally, we'll be participating in Optimist International's scholarship competitions.  We'll be conducting the essay and oratorical contests, and participating in the NM-WT District's CCDHH program.

Very near and dear to Club is the Hugh O' Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership Seminar.  We are pleased to announce partnering with Bernalillo High School to send sophomores to the weekend seminar.

Growth Follows Opportunity

As our communities grow, so does the need for more community service volunteers to help the young, old, and inbetween.  The club was formed in 2007 because we saw the need then.  The need is even greater now.  The Coronado Club was formed by the Optimist Club de Sandoval in Placitas and the Albuquerque Optimist Club.

In 2012 members of the Sandoval Club joined Coronado bringing Pack 708 with them.  The Coronado Club now serves the communities of Bernalillo, Placitas and northeastern Rio Rancho.  The population keeps growing, and so do the projects.

The Optimist Creed

Promise yourself to be so strong that nothing can disturb your peace of mind.

To talk health, happiness and prosperity to every person you meet.

To make all your friends feel that there is something in them.

To look at the sunny side of everything and make your optimism come true.

To think only of the best, to work only for the best, and to expect only the best.

To be just as enthusiastic about the success of others as you are about your own.

To forget the mistakes of the past and press on to the greater achievements of the future.

To wear a cheerful countenance at all times and give every living creature you meet a smile.

To give so much time to the improvement of yourself that you have no time to criticize others.

To be too large for worry, too noble for anger, too strong for fear,

and too happy to permit the presence of trouble.
